Will Thatcher

The de facto leader of the Lonely Winds, Will is a changed man. At only twenty-two years old, he has seen more suffering, violence and misery than most people do in a lifetime.

William Thatcher was a promising rookie peace officer, working through the ranks of the Ylelon police force. He remained stalwart even in the face of the rampant corruption that runs through the Ylelon police like cancer. Paired with the hardened veteran Samuel King, he worked the mean streets, doing what he could to make life easier for everyone he could regardless of their standing in the world.

All that changed one night when, while investigating what appeared to be a string of serial killings, Will and King surprised a vampire victimizing a homeless man. They chased the creature back to its hiding place--a cheap, low end motel room--and confronted it in a bloody gunfight that left the vampire a torn and bullet-riddled heap, King a battered mess, and Will with a shattered view of the world.

What happened next was even more incredible. Hoping both to help Will adjust to what he had seen and to strike another blow against the supernatural, King revealed an awesome secret: he was part of a secret group of paranormal investigators and monster killers called the Lonely Winds. Will was introduced to them and their mission: to protect the people of Ylelon from a threat that they didn't even know about. Will weighed the options: stay with a police force run through with corruption, or join an elite group of warriors dedicated to fighting the good fight for the benefit of others. The choice was easy for the idealistic young man.

Will soon fell in love with Tina McClay, a veteran Lonely Wind and the emotional heart of the team. Will's love was returned by Tina, and it seemed clear to everyone that knew them that they were meant for each other.

Tragically, it was not to be. Only months before the inevitable wedding, Tina was killed while the Lonely Winds attempted to root a nest of vampires out of the ruins of an abandoned city high school. The shock and grief of the loss had a profound effect on the noble young William. Where all of his life Will had been outgoing, personable and full of life, he withdrew into himself and became taciturn and distant. Once, he led the team on forays in the field, keeping them organized and watching their backs even as he took point in battles against vicious creatures without fear. Now, he journeys alone into Ylelon City on veritable suicide missions, risking his life in a fanatical attempt to purge the city of the monsters that killed his love. Only time will tell if William can return from his emotional trauma to the person he once was, or if he will end up throwing his life away in the fight his fiancée gave her life for.
