Characters

The Lonely Winds are comprised of a motley assortment of misfits from around the Ylelon city-state. Each individual brings something unique to the team, and in turn is recognized by the others as a valuable part of their shadowy, lonesome operation.

William Thatcher

The de facto leader of the Lonely Winds, Will is a changed man. At only twenty-two years old, he has seen more suffering, violence and misery than most people do in a lifetime.

William Thatcher was a promising rookie peace officer, working through the ranks of the Ylelon police force. He remained stalwart even in the face of the rampant corruption that runs through the Ylelon police like cancer. Paired with the hardened veteran Samuel King, he worked the mean streets, doing what he could to make life easier for everyone he could regardless of their standing in the world. . .[more]

Cynthia Arden

Born the third of three children, there didn't seem to be anything unusual about Cynthia, at least not to her parents. She had the same flaming red hair as her mother and siblings, but she lacked their zest for life and outgoing nature. Her mother doted on her, treasuring her as the least rebellious of her brood, while her father largely ignored her as he did everyone, focused as he was on his dealings with the shadier elements of Ylelon society. But as time went by, it became clear that Cynthia was talented. . . [more]

Jake Osborn

No one paid much attention to Jake Osborn in school. He was a quiet intellectual, enjoying creative writing, secret agent films, comic books and studying the higher sciences. He also had an unusual hobby: building gadgets and devices to imitate the gimmicks used in the spy movies he loved. His creativity and sharp mind allowed him to produce interesting variations on wristwatches, belts and computer equipment. By the time he reached college, his house was littered with interesting gadgets ranging from a two-way radio miniaturized to fit inside his glasses frames to a toaster oven disguised as a dictionary. Jake was attending a lecture given my his father, physicist Dr. Steven Osborn, on the current standing of nuclear physics at Ihuu University in Attenz when he met an individual that changed his life forever. . . Marc Schaeffer

As the members of the team go, Marc makes an impression. He was born in 2010 T.E. to James and Shara Schaeffer in one of the mining towns in the Sentinel Mountains. James was a devout member of a local white supremacist faction, and Marc learned to chant racist aphorisms at the same time he learned to walk.

By the time he reached his teens Marc had a reputation for being one of the toughest individuals in the eastern Sentinels. When he left home to move to the city, more than one of the locals breathed a sigh of relief and hoped he'd never come back. . .[more]

Hawk and Crow

Joseph Mathias Hawk is a member of the Harbor Storms, the near-legendary elite of Ylelon's military. They are the best of the best, trained for covert ops and to be able to stem any invasion and counter any foe that tries to invade Ylelon. Entire military actions by hostile countries have been staved off in the past by the mere threat of the Harbor Storms responding to the attack.

Before Hawk became a Harbor Storm, however, he was merely an exceptional soldier rising through the ranks due to his tremendous natural potential and dedication to his country. His fiancée, Angela Wright, was a student in a local martial arts dojo in Ylelon City. Hawk sometimes attended classes with her, and it was there that the two of them caught the eye of George Manor. . . [more]

Sullivan

The mechanical heart of the Lonely Winds, Sullivan is also in many ways a surrogate mother to the members of the team. She represents the pinnacle of engineering and artificial intelligence on Rond. Countless millions were spent to make the independently operating, multi-functional automaton a reality. Where George acquired Sullivan from remains a mystery. Even among the wealthy, robotic majordomos are hardly common. George, as is typical, refuses to comment at length on the subject, saying only that Sullivan has proven herself worth the effort to make her possible. . .[more]

George Manor

Little is known of the enigmatic commander-in-chief of the Lonely Winds. He appears to be in his sixties, yet he exudes health and vigor like a man in his prime. Like his home, which bears his name (or he its--no one is really certain), he has been around in the same state for living memory. He is immeasurably wealthy, yet there is no indication of where his resources come from. He rarely ventures beyond the curious confines of his home, yet he has vast knowledge of the world beyond, how it works, and where it seems to be going. . . [more]
