What are martial atrs to you?

to some it is merely a sport, to others a way of life, and there are many things in between... so what are they to you?

hrm, what if they're multiple? For example, I kind of see them as excercise and self-defense and recreation for friends to be able to kick the crap out of each other. :) Man I wish I had the money to be in classes.
Insanity is said to be the act of doing the same thing over and over, yet expecting different results each time.

I'm just here for pie and conversation, neither of which are cause to call a man a bitch.

in that case i would say it is almost a way of life but not quite. maybe like a sport when it comes to the mindset?

None of the above for me. Martial arts are creative ways to break the human body. The martial arts, the arts of war, exist to allow humans to end human life. Anything else doesn't live up to the name.

All of the above. although sport and exercise are mostly the same in my opinion anyway :P

less on the sport, as i dont enter many competitions. but i try to take the mindset into my day-to-day life (not the breaking people bit, but the philosophies)

and as much of those things, my karate club is where i know most of my current set of friends from (while the rest are at uni)

exercise and sport are listed separately because there are some people who only compete, I've noticed many of these people don't really know what they are doing in a real fight

But Walker...the same is true of most things humans have ever created.

And, as with so many of those things, they have both surpassed their original purpose and adopted others, and kept their original meaning all at once.

Oh, naturally. It's simply a personal observation. I generally feel martial sports and martial exercises should be distinct from martial arts (the actual practice and theory of hurting people and breaking things).

None of the above.

An incomplete philosophy.
