GOTFT-HH R1 F32: Beowulf vs Simea

Postby WalkerBoh » Wed Mar 10, 2010 1:47 am

Beowulf
Source: Scandinavian mythology
Gear: Scale mail, sword, shield

The definitive old school hero, he wrestled bare-handed with sea serpents, wielded weapons too heavy for ordinary men to lift, and killed the mighty ogre Grendel by twisting off its own arm! He is as fearless as he is noble, and wicked beasts shrink back in fear from his confidence. He can swim for days and go toe to toe with monsters that devour men alive…what will he make of his opponent?

versus

Simea
Source: Crystalis
Gear: Sword of Wind, Sword of Fire, Sword of Water, Sword of Thunder, Ball of Wind, Fire, Water, Thunder, Psycho Shield, Psycho Armour, Power Ring

October 3rd, 1998. The End Day. A great war erupted, and the whole world paid. Mankind barely survived, and is lucky to - the wilds have been overrun with terrible mutants. Technology has been abolished, and all of that remains is the great Tower In The Sky. Well, and Simea and Melisa's cryogenic chambers. Simea's an incredibly powerful magician, and when the world began to feel technology's taint being used for evil once again, he was called upon. One epic adventure later, the great Tower In The Sky falls to earth and the Emperor lays dead... But what's left to do after saving the world twice?

Yeah, let's go back to the commentary about the Beowulf characters. I don't know Simea beyond the GOTFT, and Beowulf is hella vague in my mind.

Well, he's not described much in the original (which I've read). Just that he's awesome and keen to fight and pulls some admittedly ridiculous stunts off.

He's still totally hooped against Simea though. Simea can leisurely dispose of Beowulf, at his own discretion. Flight + ranged attacks = win.

Simea.

Im leaning beowolf. Hes got f-1 strength and not a huge load of gear, so he can jump. Jumping sword stabbing is a time honored mage killing move, so im just waiting to hear more about her first.
I don't think the Germans today like to talk about Hitler very much. And you can't really blame them. He's kinda like the hillbilly cousin who gave the entire family a bad name because he molested all the neighbors' pets. It's kind of hard to get the neighbors to come over for dinner after something like that.

But aside from the Hitler thing, I like Germany.

Simea's a dude, by the way. Yeah, what a pansy name.

Anyways:

Psycho armour / shield will protect him from Beowulf's jumpstab well enough. Honestly, there are mooks that Simea deals with that are more dangerous than Beowulf. From teleporting wizards that shoot at you while summoning never-ending hoards of bats to generic mooks like rock golems that fling boulders around to high tech automated weapons platforms shooting energy weapons... Simea simply won't be impressed by Beowulf.

I mean, the very first area, before Simea learned all those powers, his armour consisted of "nothing" or "half-dead turtle strapped to arm", and his magic sword was capable of making a light breeze... he went out into the wilderness and bop off tons of mutant tiger-bear things. It only gets scarier from there. Make no mistake, Simea's more of a warrior than a mage, he just uses magic to augment his fighting.

Long story short: Beowulf has strength and endurance on Simea. Simea ties or vastly exceeds everything else on Beowulf.

Simea. Sure, leap attacks could work, but Simea's got some rather heavy armour and a decent bit of resilience below - he won't go down from a hit or two, and he's got a far easier time hitting Beowulf.

I don't see why you voted for him.

I mean, check it out, some of his boss fights. As an aside, spoilers ahead.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAAaW9dn ... re=related [ ~8:00 ] Notice the, you know. If you watch the whole thing, he can't do the rapid fire because he doesn't have the Warrior Ring, because that little item totally destroys the whole dynamic of the game up until you get it (which is VERY late in the game).

These were all more challenging to Simea than Beowulf will be, mighty as Beowulf is.

EDIT:: Oh, and the guy kind of isn't that great, to boot. So yeah.

EDIT EDIT:: The guy PLAYING *. Sheesh.
