Finally, if you’re a Chicago Bears fan, there’s some good news: During Chicago’s November 5 practice, Teven Jenkins, the team’s second-round offensive tackle who underwent back surgery to start the regular season, was photographed performing hill sprints.
On October 20, when questioned about the rookie offensive tackle, Bears head coach Matt Nagy indicated there had been “no change with him,” but few days later, one of the team’s veterans offered a different update.
“Teven, I believe he’ll change his mind in a few weeks.” On October 26th, offensive lineman Jason Peters stated of Jenkins, “You know, sluggish growth with him.” As it turns out, Peters’ forecast is coming true, as we just saw Jenkins jogging for the first time since his August surgery, according to a video provided on Twitter by Shaw Media’s Sean Hammond:

Jenkins may or may not play this season.
Jenkins was expected to return to the field by November, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter’s August 18th tweet, but that seems unlikely. Nagy said prior to Week 9 that the rookie offensive lineman will remain on the physically unable-to-perform list, at least for the time being.
With the 39th overall selection, the Bears traded up to get the 6-foot-6, 321-pound rookie, and the hope is that he can develop into a long-term option at guard.
Back injuries aren’t something you want to hurry back from, so Chicago will probably take it easy on him. However, getting Jenkins out there for at least a few games would be beneficial to the Bears in determining what they have in him. We’ll have to wait and see whether it occurs. If he does play, it will most likely be in December, although he might surprise everyone and play sooner. It’s also feasible that he won’t play this season at all.

Jenkins has been keeping himself busy.
Jenkins and fellow rookie offensive lineman Larry Borom have been studying while healing from their individual back problems and haven’t been able to join the squad on the field this season.
According to NBC Sports’ Alex Shapiro, offensive line coach Juan Castillo stated regarding Jenkins in October, “No trouble keeping him involved because when we’re in our meetings, you know, we ask everyone questions.” “I have a terrific group of people, so they keep him occupied.” They having a good time. They work hard and have a good time. As a result, while we’re viewing footage, it’s simple to simply ask him questions like everyone else. He’s a bright young guy who is also highly committed.”
Castillo also detailed some of the tasks he has given his rookies, including having them produce scouting reports on the defenders the squad would be facing that week.
“They write him up, put up a video, and then show it to the bigger kids who are playing,” Castillo said. “So that’s what he does,” says the narrator. … Then he’ll put it up on the board for me, he’ll put up the roster, he’ll put up the run plays,” Castillo said. “So I’m making him do stuff to keep him occupied.” Also, he’ll be able to hear the plays and such. But he’s always in meetings, so he keeps quite busy and is always with the boys. Great child, strong worker, and enthusiastic.”
Jenkins hasn’t gotten off to the kind of start the Bears hoped for when they picked him, but a sluggish start is better than none at all. It’s worth keeping an eye on, but this is the most positive indicator for the second-round offensive tackle thus far.
