The City of Los Angeles made a major change to its vaccination policy for restaurants, coffee shops, and gyms. The new mandates will be in effect on January 1st 2019. What does this mean for the future of food safety?

The “are gyms requiring vaccines” is a question that has been asked by many people. The City of LA’s strict COVID vaccine mandate for restaurants, coffee shops, and gyms took effect on January 1st.

(CBSLA) – LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – Beginning Monday, anybody visiting the indoor part of a large number of places in the city of Los Angeles – including restaurants, coffee shops, gyms, clubs, and salons – will be forced to produce evidence of complete vaccination against COVID-19 under one of the nation’s most sweeping new rules.

The SafePassLA regulation goes into effect on Monday, but it won’t be completely implemented until November 29.

Patrons aged 12 and above will be required to provide one of the following documents under the law, which was adopted by the L.A. City Council in early October:

  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a physical vaccination card.
  • A photocopy of a vaccination card or a picture on their phone
  • A digital immunization record issued by the state of California, another state, locality, or country, or a commercial enterprise that has been authorized.
  • A healthcare provider’s documentation of a COVID-19 vaccination.

Anyone above the age of 18 will be required to provide identification.

Attending outdoor gatherings with 5,000 or more people also needs evidence of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test, according to the law.

The ordinance will apply to the following:

  • Restaurants, pubs, fast food restaurants, coffee shops, tasting rooms, cafeterias, food courts, breweries, vineyards, distilleries, banquet halls, and hotel ballrooms are all examples of places to visit.
  • Recreation facilities, fitness studios (including yoga, pilates, dance, and barre), boxing gyms, fitness boot camps, and facilities that offer indoor group exercise courses are all examples of gyms and fitness venues.
  • Movie theaters, shopping centers, concert venues, performance venues, adult entertainment venues, commercial event and party venues, sports arenas, convention centers, exhibition halls, museums, malls, performing arts theaters, bowling alleys, arcades, card rooms, family entertainment centers, pool and billiard halls, play areas and game centers are all examples of entertainment and recreation venues.
  • Unless medically necessary, personal care enterprises such as spas, nail salons, hair salons, barbershops, tanning salons, estheticians, skin care, tattoo shops, piercing shops, and massage therapy sites.

Businesses who violate the new legislation will be fined $1,000 for a second offense, $2,000 for a third violation, and $5,000 for a fourth and subsequent infraction when enforcement starts Nov. 29.

Several days before the requirement went into force, a 24 Hour Fitness in Woodland Hills began asking for immunization cards.

“Absolutely, sure, getting them ready so when they walk in, it’s smooth,” Wendy Wooten, general manager of 24 Hour Fitness, told CBSLA on Monday. “And when they come in, they can simply go on with their fitness path.”

Members will only have to produce verification once, according to Wooten. It will then be logged in the web system of 24 Hour.

“They only show it once,” says the narrator. On our system, we have a verification procedure. So they may go to any club and it will say that their vaccine has been validated.”

According to the law, people might be excused from the compulsion if they have medical issues that prevent them from being vaccinated or if they have a “sincerely held religious conviction.” The site the individual is attempting to access will have to examine those exemptions.

Exempt individuals will be permitted to utilize the location’s outside spaces, but if these are unavailable, they may be allowed to access the inside area provided they can show documentation of a negative COVID-19 test conducted within 72 hours.

According to the most recent statistics, 80 percent of eligible Los Angeles County people aged 12 and above have gotten at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccination, with 72 percent having received all three doses.

Last Monday, children aged 5 to 11 became eligible for vaccinations, a population that numbers almost 900,000 in Los Angeles County.
