The Chicago Tribune recently published an article with advice for Khalil Herbert, a high school basketball player who was shot in the leg. Jonathan Taylor, a college football player who died after being hit by a car also received some words of wisdom from reporters.
Khalil Herbert has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a child. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison and the judge ordered that he register as a sex offender for life.
In the first four weeks of the NFL season, only three running backs surpassed the 30-point threshold in ESPN standard fantasy football scoring, but four did so in Week 5.
Three of them performed roughly what was anticipated, given that they were all rated in the top 10 heading into the season.
Austin Ekeler of the Los Angeles Chargers led the fantasy surge. He rushed for two touchdowns and caught one, totaling 119 yards. Jonathan Taylor of the Indianapolis Colts had by far his finest game of 2021 on Monday night. He also scored on the ground and via the air, and had more receiving yards (116) than running yards (53). This offense has far too many weapons, and Knox is often used as a blocker. However, he has been targeted often in the red zone and has a touchdown in each of the last four games. Expecting a running back to receive 10 targets in an offense featuring Mike Gesicki, Jaylen Waddle, and DeVante Parker is a reach, but so is expecting the Dolphins’ most talented back to just touch the ball twice. As a result, the solution is somewhere in the center. Because Miami is the weakest rushing team in the NFL, Gaskin’s output will have to come via the air. Meyers, Jakobi Yes, he had a rough day in Houston on Sunday, which he blamed on being lost in the lights, but the statistic that sticks out is this: 94.2. That’s the number of offensive snaps he’s played this season, much more than any other receiver. What has changed to turn Marquise Brown into a scoring machine since last season’s midpoint, and can it be sustained?
Yes, as long as he keeps becoming open. Brown has 11 touchdown receptions in 12 games since Week 12 of last season, the most in the NFL over that time period. On four touchdowns, he averaged 3.7 yards of separation. With several touchdowns, that’s the most of any Baltimore player. Lamar Jackson has excellent field vision and seldom misses the open guy. Is Samaje Perine deserving of a part in the future, even as Joe Mixon regains his health?
If and when Mixon is completely healthy, it’s difficult to see Perine carving out a larger role. Perine isn’t a good fantasy choice since there isn’t enough snap share to go around. He’s also on the COVID-19 reserve list at the moment. The larger worry is that if Perine is unable to play and RB Chris Evans performs well, Evans may replace Perine as the fantasy RB2. – Ben Little

Have you given up? No, not yet. But, for now, why don’t you place him on your bench? Most likely. Since his comeback in Week 3, OBJ has had a few chances. He and Baker Mayfield, on the other hand, are still trying to get on the same page. In Week 4 against Minnesota, Mayfield missed Beckham for a wide-open touchdown. Then, in Week 5, against the Chargers, Beckham lost a ball off his chest on fourth down that could’ve been a touchdown. Right now, this isn’t a relationship to put your faith in. But, given Beckham’s skill in Cleveland’s offense, it’s much too soon to throw up the towel. Jake Trotter’s remark
Can Ben Roethlisberger’s current iteration push defenses enough downfield to make Chase Claypool’s huge Week 5 surge more than a one-week spike?
Yes, as long as the offensive line holds up its end of the bargain. Roethlisberger’s arm isn’t in danger, but he needs pass rush protection and time to allow those downfield plays develop. Furthermore, better offensive line performance will keep the run game flowing, allowing the vertical throwing game to flourish. AFC SOUTH
Which Week 5 surprise producer, Chris Moore or Chris Conley, has piqued your curiosity the most?
Moore. In his first four games, Conley was mostly utilized as a blocking wide receiver, with just three receptions on six targets. He’s also in his sixth NFL season and has previously played a similar position. Moore was playing in just his second game with the Texans, having played only two plays in his first, and he performed so well that the team decided to add him to the active roster after the game. Jonathan Taylor’s long touchdown catch was impressive, but what should fantasy managers make of the Week 5 carry distribution?
Taylor has been and will be the starting running back. The 76-yard screen score was just a bonus for the offense. The Colts have always believed that one of their running backs will make a huge play off a screen at some time. The larger issue is who will be Taylor’s backup running back. Is Dan Arnold worth our time at a position where there is a dearth of productivity throughout the league?
At the very least, he’s worth keeping an eye on for a few more weeks. He’s the Jaguars’ best pass-catching tight end, and they’ll use him in the slot or out wide to help up for the loss of DJ Chark Jr. He also has excellent speed and is capable of making plays after the catch. Arnold has only played in two games but already has 57 yards in YAC, which puts him third on the squad. A.J. Brown was selected as the seventh wide receiver in the draft. How confident are you that he will turn things around sooner rather than later?
Brown is expected to turn things around soon since he is trying to regain his health. Brown had a hamstring injury in Week 2 that restricted him to eight plays and prevented him from participating in Week 3. When Julio Jones recovers from his own hamstring issue, things will only get better. With Jones on the field, opponents will be less likely to double-cover Brown, allowing him to go open more easily. Courtland Sutton now has two good weeks and three bad weeks under his belt. Will he be able to maintain consistency over time, or are we in for a season of ups and downs?
Don’t act as if you weren’t forewarned. Teddy Bridgewater, the quarterback, will throw the ball wherever the coverage takes him. When defenders take a chance and match up with Sutton one-on-one, he’ll receive lots of touches. Sutton, on the other hand, will have plenty of targets in the long run. On that front, the next item to monitor is when Jerry Jeudy returns to the lineup, which may come in the next two or three weeks after he suffered an ankle injury in the opener. Sutton may get even more one-on-one looks from defenders when Jeudy returns, particularly in the red zone, even if his overall targets drop. Legwold, Jeff
Is this Darrel Williams’ backfield now that Clyde Edwards-Helaire is gone, or should you anticipate a committee approach (or a complete abandonment of the ground game)?
Williams is likely to receive the most of the work. While Jerick McKinnon has seen the most action on passing downs, the Chiefs are comfortable with him in all circumstances. Why not both, or the one from seven years ago? With Jon Gruden out of the picture, offensive coordinator Greg Olson, who was the Raiders’ playcaller back in (checks notes) 2014, is now in charge of the offense. True or false: It’s a bad idea to rely on Amari Cooper for a high target count?
Because of the way the Cowboys operate their system, relying on anybody on the offensive for weekly fantasy success is always a risk. They don’t have to depend on a single individual. They do not have to depend on a single factor. They may use Ezekiel Elliott or Tony Pollard to operate it. Cooper, CeeDee Lamb, or Dalton Schultz are all viable candidates. And they’ve shown that they can succeed in every situation. Cooper will have some huge games as the season progresses, but he could also throw in a three-catch game because the Cowboys are so good at running the ball that his targets will be restricted. For anybody who has a fantasy question regarding the Cowboys, I’ll say this: Be careful what you buy. Todd Archer is a writer.
Will the Kadarius Toney production A) go away when everyone is healthy, B) remain when everyone is healthy, or C) remain since I doubt this roster will ever be healthy?
It isn’t “B.” Toney will not be able to perform at the same level as he did last week when there was no one else on the field. There will just be insufficient goals for this to occur on a regular basis. As a result, “A” is the most probable response, but his output will still be substantially reduced. Throughout the first six weeks, the offensive has seen significant ups and downs, and that trend is expected to continue. However, now that Zach Ertz has been sold to the Cardinals, Dallas Goedert should emerge as one of the more productive tight ends, and DeVonta Smith will have more good weeks than bad as the obvious No. 1 receiver in Philadelphia. What do you think of Terry McLaurin’s recent inefficiencies: are they the consequence of greater defensive emphasis and therefore a long-term worry, or are they simply a blip on the radar?
Even though he only grabbed six of 13 targets against Atlanta two weeks ago, he still managed 123 yards and two touchdowns. So it wasn’t very efficient, but he got a lot done. Marshon Lattimore deserves praise for his performance against the Saints (4-46 on 11 targets). But I don’t believe it was simply about Lattimore, nor did I believe it was about additional attention. It had a lot to do with quarterback Taylor Heinicke being late on certain passes and not having the arm power to make up for it. McLaurin was open for a huge gain on a number of occasions, but the ball was late, and the corner or safety was near enough, so it went incomplete. McLaurin, on the other hand, had completed his mission. So the issue isn’t so much with him or how defenses are playing him as it is with Heinicke’s desire to be on time. With Damien Williams and David Montgomery both out, who is Khalil Herbert and will he be the go-to back?
Before Montgomery landed on injured reserve, Herbert was a late-round draft selection out of Virginia Tech who mainly handled kickoff return responsibilities. Let’s not place Herbert, who is 5-foot-9, in the Hall of Fame after only one game, although he ran hard against the Raiders last week (18 carries, 75 yards). Against the Packers, he’ll undoubtedly be the primary back. To have a chance of defeating Aaron Rodgers and Co., the Bears must be able to run the ball efficiently. Dickerson, Jeff
TJ Hockenson has had three weeks of consecutive losses: should he be patient or panic?
Patience. It’s no secret that Hockenson came into this season with great expectations, and after two weeks, he looked to be the offense’s focal point. He started out strong, becoming the first Lions tight end to catch eight passes in a row, but he hasn’t caught more than four passes in a game since. Hockenson was once again restricted in practice heading into this week, skipping Wednesday’s session due to a knee issue. Teams are explicitly game-planning against Hockenson whereas he is focused on “staying engaged,” which is more essential. Is AJ Dillon’s role going to grow? What do you anticipate his average number of touches per game will be the remainder of the season?
“We’ve got to continue to find ways to get him the ball,” coach Matt LaFleur said this week when asked about Dillon. He praised Dillon’s better hands as a receiver in particular, so that might be an area where his productivity can continue or even increase. Through two weeks, Dalvin Cook has averaged 25 touches… will he have another game with that amount of activity this season?
With one game left against Carolina before a Week 7 bye, it’s likely Cook won’t be asked to carry such a heavy burden until he’s had more time to mend his right ankle. The safest bet would be to give Cook the next two weeks off so he can be as healthy as possible for the Vikings’ Halloween game against Dallas. Cook may have to tack on extra touches against the Panthers instead of splitting carries with his backup, Alexander Mattison, who is struggling with a shoulder issue. Do you see Darrell Henderson Jr. dominating backfield touches, or do you think Sony Michel will continue to limit his touches?
Henderson has established himself as the go-to back at this point, something Sean McVay said would be the case even after the trade for Michel. It would have been Week 5 with Henderson coming off a rib cartilage injury if there was ever a moment for both Henderson and Michel to be suited, but Michel to receive a greater workload than his opponent. Carson, who was placed on injured reserve on Friday, hasn’t averaged 20 or more touches per game since the start of the 2019 season, and I don’t expect that to change when he returns.
